Damascus: Al Faisaly saw their march to the last 16 of the AFC Cup cruelly halted as Feras Ismail's goal deep into stoppage time snatched a 1-1 draw with Al Jaish at Al Abbasiyyin Stadium in Damascus.
Three points against a side they saw off 2-0 in their opening game of Group C would have sealed the Jordanians' passage into the knockout phase.
They seemed well on course to do just that as, after a goalless opening period, Isam Al Mbaydin finally broke the deadlock when the defender found the back of the net with 12 minutes to go.
Al Jaish, though, were not to be denied and in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Ismail popped up to break Al Faisaly hearts and ensure the Syrians' dream of reaching the next phase lasts at least another week.
Al Faisaly now top Group C on 10 points alongside Duhok after the Iraq outfit also needed a late goal to see off Al Nasr. Al Jaish sit two further back on eight points.
Next week's final round of games sees Al Jaish travel to bottom side Al Nasr, who are yet to pick up a point in this season's competition, with the Syrians needing a victory over the Kuwaitis and either Duhok or Al Faisaly take all three points from their clash in Amman in order to advance at the expense of the defeated team.
