Kuala Lumpur: Two-time AFC Cup champions Al Faisaly of Jordan have lost the services of two pivotal players in the continental tournament after a registration goof-up.
Hatem Aqel and Moayad Abukeshek will not be part of Al Faisaly’s AFC Cup 2011 squad after the club failed to sort out their transfers. The Jordanians were without the duo when they beat Syria’s Al Jaish 2-0 in their opening encounter on Wednesday.
Aqel has been de-registered by the club as the Jordan FA registration period was closed at the time of his transfer from his previous Saudi club Al Hazm, while Abukeshek’s impending transfer to Kuwait’s Al Nassr could not be completed during the stipulated registration period of the Kuwait FA.
Al Faisaly, who won the title in 2005 and 2006, next play Iraqi side Duhok in the AFC Cup on 16 March.
