Iraq’s first match on home soil since 2013 after FIFA uplifted the ban of friendly games in Iraq, saw the hosts win 1-0 against Jordan in the friendly international that was held on Thursday June 1, at the Basra Stadium.

The match witnessed a wonderful brotherly atmosphere in front of around sixty thousand spectators in the attendance of Jordan Football Association President HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein who played a vital role in uplifting the ban of Iraqi home games, Iraqi Football Association President Abdelkhaleq Masoud, Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports Abdelhussein Abtan, as well as many officials from both sides.

The match’s only goal came in the 15th minute following a counter-attack from Iraq that saw Alaa Abdulzahra score the winner for Iraq with a header, as Iraq held on to their lead till the final whistle.

The Jordanian National Team leaves on Saturday heading to Hong Kong to face hosts in a friendly international on June 7, before traveling to encounter Vietnam on June 13 at the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
