Jordan Women’s National Team kicked off its training camp in Japan by facing Japan Football Association’s Fukashima Academy, which includes talented girls from across Japan.
The match was held on Thursday, January 25, in freezing temperatures that reached -4 degrees, in Gotemba, Shizuoka. The encounter was previously scheduled to be held on the 24th, but heavy snowfall forced the game to be shifted one day further.
Despite the many chances that the team created, they failed to convert their chances. While the hosts managed to score 2 goals in each half, taking advantage of the mistakes that the National Team made at the back, and finishing the game with a victory.
Fukushima seemed to be used to the weather and pitch conditions, as they were organized in both defense and attack. The display improved in the second half, but rushing play in some chances, and delaying it in others, prevented the team from converting their chances.
The team performance seemed very cautious and lacking concentration, specially with the players afraid of the risk of being injured, given the icy pitch condition.
Head coach Michael Dickey, reflected on the game by saying;
“Today’s game was played in difficult conditions, so it was not easy for our team to get a good feel for the game as we were playing, because we had a difficult time getting our foot in, and were not able to adjust to that type of surface.”
He added: “there was some really good moments throughout the game, regarding our ball possession and winning the ball back quickly, but at the same time we didn’t track our opponents off the ball enough, which lead to confusion between our lines. It’s certainly something that we have to work on going forward, and we also have to continue improving.”
“We created numerous goal scoring opportunities in both the first and second half, but we didn’t convert our chances, so I was disappointed about our inability to convert. That definitely has to get better in the second game.”
“Overall, we’re happy to compete against good teams in preparation for the qualifiers in April. Our game will certainly help us going forward, I’m also happy that we got through this game injury-free, so it will help us get ready fort he next game.” Dickey concluded.
The team takes on professional club, Nojima Stella, on Saturday, January 27, in wrap up of the Japan training camp.
