Jordan Women’s National Team kicked off its matches at the Alanya Women’s Friendly International Tournament, with a 2-0 defeat to Poland in the opening match of the tournament.
The match was held on Wednesday, February 28, at the Gold City pitch in Alanya, Turkey, where Jordan holds its final preparation for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup and World Cup Qualifiers next April.
Poland scored the opener from the penalty spot (52′), and doubled the lead in the 64th minute.
The encounter started with a vibrant display from the Polish team, pressing our National Team in the final third. However, Jordan managed to contain the Polish attack, forcing them to retreat to their side of the field. Jordan then took control of possession for a while, but didn’t manage to threaten the Polish team, bringing up the match to a goalless draw at the break.
Poland managed to score after 7 minutes from the start of the second half with Agata Guściora successfully converting from the penalty spot. 12 minutes later, Martyna Wiankowska scored the 2nd goal with a strike from inside the box.
In the other game in the same group, Mexico managed to win against Latvia 5-0, to go on top of the group with goal difference over Poland, with Jordan in third in goal difference ahead Latvia.
The team arrived to Antalya, on Monday, February 26, and started trainings in preparation for their opening game against Poland. To be followed by another encounter against Mexico on Friday, March 2, and a match against Latvia on Sunday, March 4, while the last game will be played on Tuesday, March 6, for the tournament’s places deciding match.
